Geo-Xergy was created to meet the growing demand in the energy systems integration and geothermal heating and cooling industries. Owners, designers and contractors are choosing to consider innovative energy solutions due to rising energy costs and concerns about the environment. We deliver a holistic approach to energy systems design in a variety of sectors including commercial building systems, ice arenas, and industrial energy systems.

In addition to our diverse mechanical design experience, we have been involved in the international geothermal heating and cooling industry since the early ‘80’s. We have a wealth of experience working in various roles including commercial/industrial system design, machine design / manufacturing, commissioning, equipment distribution and contracting. As high-level designers and advisors, our relationships with architects, mechanical designers & installers, geological engineers, drillers, and equipment manufactures enable us to effectively assist project teams internationally. Geo-Xergy Partners are located in the provinces of Ontario and Manitoba.

Our niche design experience includes pioneering the integration of ice rink refrigeration systems with ground heat exchangers to enable use of otherwise "waste heat" in recreation facilities and surrounding buildings through near-ambient temperature district earth energy systems. Over 50 such systems have been completed in the U.S. and Canada in the last 12 years. These systems continue to displace most, (and in some cases all) of the on-site fossil fuel combustion that would have otherwise been required in the facilities.

In commercial buildings, we have pioneered the use of ice storage with geothermal heating and cooling to provide many capital and operating cost savings. Ice made during off-peak hours (typically at night) is used the following day to provide cooling. Energy taken from the ice provides heat to other applications. The building systems literally heat the spaces at night while providing the following day's air conditioning at a greatly reduced electrical demand. Many geothermal systems are designed based on peak cooling conditions, one of the factors that can make the project applicable for this type of technology.

Often the use of ice storage in combination with geothermal technology can reduce the capital cost of the ground heat exchanger, heat pump plant and other components while still providing all of the seasonal thermal energy storage benefits of a geothermal system. Several of our systems that are configured in this manner are currently reducing energy and peak demand charges in the systems that they serve. Simultaneous use of both the hot and cold side of a heat pump system doubles the system efficiency increasing the “exergy” obtained from a given input of electrical energy.
